Hi, I’m Laurie Jay Newman the founder of Blue Jay Books and I’m passionate about teaching the next generation to protect our beautiful planet. I believe that we should be teaching children to be eco heroes not just superheroes!
Here at Blue Jay Books I take pride in producing high quality picture books that captivate children’s imaginations but also inspire them to look after the natural world.
In the last few years I have grown incredibly frustrated about the lack of children’s books on the market teaching children about important environmental issues. Having come from a publishing background myself I realised that I could write, illustrate and publish books that I believed needed to be seen on children’s book shelves.
The first eco tale published by Blue Jay Books was Jessie The Jellyfish published in July 2020 written by myself and illustrated with Sophie Cregan. The story of a lonely jellyfish who makes friends with a plastic bag.
Caring for the environment is at the forefront of Blue Jay Books which is why the books are printed on FSC certified paper by one of the most carbon neutral printers in the UK. All orders are also posted in plastic free packaging.
I believe it’s more important than ever before that we teach the next generation, to not only protect our oceans, but to nurture all the wonderful creatures that we share this beautiful planet with.
